Links to your work (if you’re a published writer) and an explanation of why you are well placed to write the article. The FADER is a little more “major” than some of its indie music blog peers, but they still do their work to support up-and-coming artists along the way. They have a massive reach and maybe harder to get through to, but it’s still worth reaching out to get on their radar. They cover releases from a wide variety of music genres, as well as premieres, news, and cool work in the art/culture scene and even have a record label.
Plan ahead and tailor your article pitches to upcoming themes. If you pitch an article about drums in August, guess what? If we accept it at all, it probably won’t be published for nine months. We’re always looking for new guest authors and we welcome individual bloggers to contribute high-quality guest posts. Your role would be to write exciting and engaging and honest reviews of albums and events for the website. Whilst you will be sent new releases we receive to review, you will be required to hunt some down yourself.
If you want to write opinion based features, short news items, or even book reviews of political and cultural titles you can reach out to the editor. We believe the media has a responsibility to talk about the impact of systemic racism and structural inequality in our city and our society. For this purpose, we have created a specific commissioning pot for coverage of issues around race, racism and racialised communities in Sheffield. We can pay local writers with lived experience to cover these vital topics and we particularly encourage pitches related to them. Before submitting a pitch, please acquaint yourself with Sojourners’ editorial policies and the material on our site. We accept pitches for reported pieces, analysis, and commentary that address social justice issues or appeal to a well-informed faith audience.
To be considered for this role please send an example of your work. The review should be a minimum of 200 words but no longer than 500 words. We here at Soundscape Magazine are always on the look out for new talent.
